The Goulburn Murray Valley (GMV) ‘No Flies on Us’ program was set up in June 2017 to combat against the Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) which has the potential to damage our fruit and vegetable markets and is considered a major risk to Victoria’s horticulture industry. The program has been funded by the Victorian government regional grants program.
As part of the program, 300+ traps were dispatched to selected locations within the Goulburn Valley and Murray Valley regions.
Traps are read on a fortnightly basis from May to September, with weekly readings from October to April. The data provided by our trapping network is then used to help recognise and understand fruit fly activities. This helps to implement control measures and strategies to help reduce the Queensland fruit fly numbers and the damage they cause.
Community awareness and wide spread recognition that no single measure will stop the spread of QFF, is critical to the success of fruit fly management. We all need to work together and implement a range of strategies to fight the QFF.
Register for ‘No Flies on Us’ GMV Queensland fruit fly notifications and stay informed about regional trends and Queensland fruit fly catches located close to your residential address.
